Indigo

Indigo is a French male-quintet:

The sixth member, pianist Dominique Godin, accompanies most songs on piano. He also is responsible for most of the arrangements on their album Furioso (1993)

Half of the lyrics on their album are in French. That's probably one reasons why the group is virtually unknown in the Netherlands. Most Dutch people still think it a difficult language. This really is a pity, because listening to their songs is very much worthwhile.

The style on `Furioso' is a mixture of pop (e.g. "Golden brown"), ballads (e.g. "Dansez sur moi"), a ghost story ("Champagne"), vocalized big band standards (e.g. "En flânant de Paris"), and even songs in the tradition of the Comedian Harmonists (including the gurgling, whistling, and ringing noises). Whether their songs are a cappella or accompanied. These guys really know what they are doing.

Big plusses of the album are "En flânant dans Paris" (A vocalized version of `for Lena and Lennie' by Quincy Jones), Un cinq à sept sur Le Pont-Neuf (Vocalize of `Flight of the foo birds' by Neal Hefti and Golden Brown (orig. the Stranglers).

Only minus: I got plenty o' nuttin' (the arrangement is not really inspiring).

Unfortunately we know very little about this group. So if YOU have any additional information on this group or on their recordings. DO MAIL US!
